About the Stop Ahead or Yield Ahead Sign
When a passive crossing has a STOP or YIELD sign, MUTCD Section 8B.08 requires the matching advance warning sign — the Stop Ahead (W3-1) or Yield Ahead (W3-2) symbol diamond — when the criteria in Section 2C.29 are met, typically where the stop or yield sign can't be seen early enough to stop comfortably.
