About the No Turn on Red Sign

When a train approaches a crossing next to a signalized intersection, the signal is preempted to clear the tracks and then holds traffic. A right turn on red at that moment can put a car onto the tracks, so MUTCD Section 8D.07 (2003) lists the NO TURN ON RED sign for these intersections. Choose the word message (the 2009 MUTCD's R10-11b), the symbol (R10-11) or the red-ball version (R10-11a), each from FHWA's official artwork.
