About the Grade Crossing Warning Plaque

Table 8B-1's small yellow word signs add a detail to a crossing's warning signs. NO SIGNAL and NO GATES OR LIGHTS (Section 8B.15) mark a passive crossing, so drivers don't count on warning lights. NEXT CROSSING and USE NEXT CROSSING (Section 8B.17) send trucks and low vehicles to another crossing, ROUGH CROSSING warns of a rough one, and LOW GROUND CLEARANCE goes under the W10-5 symbol sign where a hump can strand a low trailer on the tracks. The 2009 MUTCD made them plaques (W10-13P, W10-14P, W10-14aP, W10-15P, W10-5P).
